Letter to Clients – Property Tax Grace Period due to Coronavirus
Posted on March 24, 2020 by

Dear Client,

We assume that this letter finds you, your families, your tenants /residents and your business(es) in a state of concern and one in which you are being asked to evaluate new challenges through a very different lens than most have of us have had to deal with in our lifetimes.

In light of the uncertainties related to COVID-19 and their impact upon your families and business(es) certain municipalities have announced measures in relation to your obligations relating to the payment of property tax.

On March 20th, 2020, Mayor John Tory announced a sixty (60) day grace period for Property Tax, Water and Solid waste utility bill payments for bills dated as of March 16th 2020.   The url below provides a summary of this press release.   As well, late payment penalties for residential and business properties will be waived for 60 days, starting the same day.

For now, MPAC and the Assessment Review Board, are making an effort to carry on business as usual which requires the team at ArGil to continue to work on appeal proceedings that include requesting and relying upon information from you our clients (i.e. rent rolls, income / expense statements and other evidentiary requirements) to reach our objective of successfully resolving appeals on your behalf.   Our staff our working remotely and endeavouring to carry on as well we can in light of the position that we all find ourselves in.

Please do not hesitate to reach out and/or contact any of our team members where you have questions about non-payment policies/ announcements and/or simply want to inquire about the status of your appeals.

All the best!
